A sensor is a device that produces an output signal for the purpose of sensing physical phenomena like light, heat, motion, pressure, level, position, etc. They send signals to the required processor. By receiving this signal, the required operation can be done by other working components.
In a hydraulic circuit, the oil pressure will be maintained to the required pressure. If the pressure drops (or) pressure goes up, it will create a problem and damage the parts and system. So, the pressure sensor is fitted in the circuit and pressure will be monitored.
In a windmill, to get the maximum wind efficiency, the turbine blades will be pitched. This blade pitching operation will be done by a hydraulic pitch cylinder which actuates the push rod to rotate the blades to the correct position. For the accurate movement of the cylinder piston, the Linear Position Sensor is required. This sensor indicates the position of the piston and indicates how much movement has been done to blade pitching.
In Gearbox and Hydraulic power pack, the oil will get heated due to continuous working. Due to the rise in temperature of oil, it creates damages to the gear, valve failure and oil itself lose its properties. To avoid this, the temperature of the oil is to be sensed and monitored. By receiving this temperature indication, the cooling system will work and cool the temperature of the oil. For the above purpose, the temperature sensor is used in windmills.
In a gearbox and power packs, the oil level to be maintained to the required level. If the level of the oil is not maintained, it leads to pump failure and gearbox failure. So, for maintaining the oil level, sensors are used. If the level goes beyond the minimum level, the sensor will indicate the level by signals and it will shut down the machine till the oil is filled.
The speed sensor is a device that tells the speed of a rotational part. In windmills, the rotational speed of brake disc, Generator, Blades, and Gear Box are needed. To find the rotational speed of the components, this sensor is used.
In a windmill, if any part or whole windmill starts to vibrate due to any specific problem, the windmill has to be stopped and the message has to be displayed on the screen. For these, a vibration sensor will be fitted. If measures the charges of the velocity of a given component. Any vibration will reflect the change in velocity, which will produce an electrical signal.
